A Day Trip to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee
Sanctuary to see Chimpanzees.
Trip itinerary
Early Morning at 7:00am or before,
departure from Kampala to Entebbe
on the Lake Victoria shores from where
the boat ride to Ngamba Island begins.
At 8:00am, set off in a speed boat
or a canoe boat to the Island. A speed
boat trip takes 45 minutes and canoe
takes 1:30 hours. When you arrive
at the sanctuary, you will get a small
briefing and then view the morning
feeding of the chimpanzees from the
visitors’ platform area along
the end of the sanctuary fence. Seeing
the chimps correlate with each other
and with their keepers is extremely
fascinating, watch the neighboring
fishing village, take bird watching
around the island forest plus nature
and scenery viewing, it’s a
charming experience. In the afternoon,
return to Entebbe main land. Take
lunch at Imperial Botanical Beach
Hotel or at Uganda Wildlife Education
Centre (UWEC) canteen. After lunch,
you can visit different animal species
in their artificial habitats at UWEC.
It’s a good experience seeing
these animals from a close range in
their confinements. After roughly
an hour or more at UWEC, get on your
vehicle and get back to Kampala or
Entebbe basing on where is your booked
accommodation.
